Orchids

A full-stack AI coding agent that builds web apps, mobile apps, Slack bots, Chrome extensions, AI agents, and more from a chat prompt — bring your existing ChatGPT, Claude Code, Gemini, or GitHub Copilot subscription and get started free.

Operator's take

Orchids has moved well past the "AI website builder" category it launched in. The current pitch is a full-stack coding agent — you describe what you want to build, it plans, codes, debugs, and integrates across any language or framework. React, Next.js, Python, Swift, Flutter — the tool isn't opinionated about stack. The ceiling has risen considerably: this isn't just landing pages anymore; it's competing directly with Bolt, Lovable, v0, and Replit for the "build me a real app" market. It ranked #1 on AppBench (76%) and #1 on UIBench (30.08), which puts it above Claude Code, v0, and Lovable on those benchmarks as of mid-2026.

The business model is worth understanding. The free tier works by plugging in your existing AI subscription — ChatGPT Plus, Claude Code, Gemini, or GitHub Copilot — rather than paying Orchids directly. That's an unusual model that lowers the sticker-shock barrier for operators who already pay for one of those services. For operators who don't, paid tiers are fully public and credit-based: Pro at $21/month, Premium $42, Ultra $83, and Max $168, each raising the monthly credit cap (100k on Free up to 30M on Max), plus a custom Enterprise tier for teams.

For non-technical operators, the honest framing is: this is a coding agent, not a point-and-click builder. You'll get further here than with a traditional drag-and-drop tool, but you're still in territory where reviewing generated code and understanding deployment matters. Where it genuinely wins is output quality — the benchmark scores suggest the generated UI reads as human-designed rather than AI-stamped, which matters if the end result is client-facing. What it's good at

  • Prompt-to-app generation across any stack — describe what you want, get a working web app, mobile app, CLI tool, Slack bot, Chrome extension, or AI agent back; supports React, Next.js, Python, Swift, Flutter, and more.
  • Bring-your-own-subscription free tier — plug in an existing ChatGPT, Claude Code, Gemini, or GitHub Copilot subscription and use Orchids without additional cost.
  • Full-stack coding agent — plans, debugs, runs commands, and handles integrations, not just code generation; one chat drives the whole process.
  • Native desktop IDE, not browser-only — ships as a downloadable app for Mac, Windows, and Linux; you chat, speak, and watch the build in real time rather than working through a web form.
  • Benchmark-leading UI quality — ranked #1 on AppBench and UIBench vs. Bolt, Lovable, v0, and Replit; output doesn't announce itself as AI-generated.
  • Any-language, any-framework — not locked to a specific stack; call for React or Swift or Python and it adapts.

What it's not

  • Not a drag-and-drop website builder — this is a coding agent; operators who want a purely visual, no-code canvas should look elsewhere (Webflow, Squarespace).
  • Not the right fit if you need zero technical involvement — the agent generates real code and handles deployment, which means reviewing outputs and understanding the app's shape still matters for anything production-grade.
  • Not a replacement for a full developer on complex projects — closes the gap significantly, but custom auth systems, bespoke data models, and compliance-heavy integrations still benefit from a human dev in the loop.
